WWC2026: Discontinuation of Recorded Accompaniment Category and Establishment of A Cappella Category
Dear Whistlers,
Starting with WWC2026, the Recorded Accompaniment Category will be discontinued, and A Cappella Category will be established.
– The A Cappella Category is for solo whistling performances without accompaniment.
– The A Cappella Category will maintain the same age divisions (Child, Teen, Adult, Senior) as the previous Recorded Accompaniment Category.
– In the A Cappella Category, participants will perform Classical and Popular pieces, as in the previous Recorded Accompaniment Category.
– For the A Cappella Category only, the minimum performance time (per piece) will be changed from 2 minutes to 1 minute 30 seconds. The maximum performance time will remain the same as the previous Recorded Accompaniment Category.
– With this change, solo performances without any elements other than whistling will no longer be permitted in the Allied Arts category. (Other recorded accompanied performances are still allowed.)
Further details will be posted on the official website in the guidelines.
Thank you for your understanding.

Key Differences between WWC2024 and WWC2026
This document outlines the primary changes from WWC2024 to WWC2026.
Categories and Awards
- The title for the 1st Place winner in the Hikifuki Category will be “Grand Champion” (previously, no title was awarded for overall winner in WWC).
- The title for the 1st Place winner in the Adult Division of the Recorded Accompaniment Category will be “Champion” (previously, 1st Place winner in WWC).
- In the Hikifuki Category, accompaniment using instruments that cannot play scales (such as percussion) will not be permitted. In such cases, the entry will be classified under the Allied Arts Category instead of Hikifuki.
Entry Guidelines
- Resubmission (replacement) of entries for the Recorded Audition will not be permitted, even within the submission period.
The information provided is current as of September 1, 2024. While we strive to minimize significant changes, please be aware that adjustments may be necessary. Please refer to future announcements for updates.
Except for the points listed below, most aspects will remain similar to the previous event.
